Your Feet Affect Your Confidence
A Ripple Effect That Transforms Your Life
Introduction
There’s something extremely valuable most of us rarely give a thought about until we reach a certain age or experience certain situations. It’s the confidence of walking without fear of falling.
A Real-Life Story
A gentleman I know had suffered a mild neurological injury and walked with an unsteady gait. He would often stumble and found everyday activities like walking the dog challenging. Simply reaching to pick a berry once ended in a full-body entanglement with brambles. He had fallen and rolled down a small incline when walking in his neighbourhood. Never mind the consequences of not successfully navigating a flight of stairs at home. Public transit rides were an ordeal punctuated by concerned onlookers asking if he was okay. As a teacher, standing in front of the class grew more difficult.
This fellow and I happened to be chatting when he mentioned these misadventures which had lasted many months and agreed to experience a ‘foot tune up’ session with me. This resulted in a significant improvement in his stability and confidence. He regained the ability to stand without support, even during abrupt track changes on his daily light rail commute. He was grateful for an end to his embarrassment and frustration.
Is Walking Simple?
Walking is a complex bio-physical process. It requires the coordinated contraction and relaxation of muscles in your legs, swinging of the arms, twisting movements of the spine, and much more. It’s controlled by body sensors, neurons, and different parts of the brain. Any failure in this neurological loop can result in jerky, uncoordinated or unproductive movements.
Why Does This Matter?
In the words of Joni Mitchell: 🎶 “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone…” 🎶
If you feel unsure of your balance when standing, if you feel tired after walking or standing, or if you believe you could benefit from greater physical coordination, then the following information is important for you.
The nervous system constantly receives inputs from various sources to prevent you from falling when walking. Crucial information comes from sensors in the feet which have a significant impact on body coordination.
The Transformative Potential of Tuning Up the Walking Gaits
These foot sensors sometimes stop communicating with the nervous system. Without information from these sensors, your brain has to guess how to move your body, leading to clumsiness and energy wastage. This becomes a big problem when several sensors go offline, causing a person to feel uncoordinated, unsteady, or even fall.
Pain and Lack of Physical Function Can Result
Foot sensors also influence the tone of muscles throughout the body. When the brain isn’t receiving clear messages from these sensors, it can cause muscles to be too tight or too relaxed, which can lead to chronic muscular imbalances and pain. Compensations occur which can reduce the ability to move optimally.
Is There a Solution?
My company can offer a solution as a first step to increase your stability and may even help increase your vitality.
Because making measurable, positive changes for physical and emotional wellness is a core value to me, I enjoy sharing a one minute method anyone can do that helps to bring one of the six most important foot sensors back online. Activating this single reflex often has widespread effects. Do this before putting on your shoes because it can help prevent feeling tired from standing or walking. Just direct message me with a request to access the ‘foot tune up video’. There will never be any heavy follow up sales pressure from me, just a friendly invitation to learn more, in case you might be interested.
If you are a wellness professional, an athlete, or a body nerd, you may be interested to hear that I have an online program that will teach you the basic skill of bioenergetic muscle testing and how to use this new ability to rapidly assess and reset the neurology to eleven muscles involved in six planes of movement. Chronic pain issues are often resolved as a side-benefit. The program is called ‘Tuning Gaits’ and adds a game changing activity to your toolkit.

Key Takeaway
Activating sensors in your feet can do more than just improve your walk (or run). This simple practice can eliminate embarrassment, restore stability and confidence, and potentially alleviate pain and discomfort throughout your body.
Take that step — literally — and help yourself and others move from stumbling to stability. Remember to message me for the link to the five minute ‘foot tune up video’ that demonstrates a one minute technique.
