Your Body Has Circuit Breakers

Introduction

The human body has an intricate electrical system with a safety switch that can be thought of as “circuit breakers.” Because the body is electrical in nature, these breakers are often triggered by the nervous system in response to overuse, injury, or chronic stress. This can cause certain muscles or muscle groups to stop functioning optimally. Identifying areas that have been put offline and knowing where their reset points are located can significantly improve body vitality, comfort and strength while addressing persistent physical issues.

The Importance for Therapists

For massage and physical therapists, understanding this neurological circuitry is crucial. Failing to recognize and address disrupted neurological messages leads to unresolved physical issues. Affected areas just don’t respond correctly which causes frustration for both the client and their therapist and hampers the healing process.

Bioenergetic Muscle Testing Is A Helpful Tool

Just because someone can lift and carry something heavy doesn’t mean their muscles are all working properly. Manual muscle testing done in the ‘light bioenergetic assessment style’ is an important tool for identifying areas that aren’t functioning at 100%. One aspect of this skill is to observe how muscles are able to resist gentle pressure applied through their range of motion. A response where a muscle unlocks during testing highlights obvious areas requiring attention. A few specialists may also know how to identify muscles at risk of ‘popping a breaker’.

If you want to permanently fix a problem you need to discover the whole scope. Assessing clients from head-to-toe with this processreveals unsuspected areasthat are contributing to chronic issues.

Resetting Circuits Is A Game-Changer

Learning how to reset these circuits is key to restoring under-facilitated muscles to proper function. Another use of bioenergetic muscle testing is to identify where a corrective input can be applied for greatest benefit. For example, whereto apply fingertip pressure to reset muscles. The process is similar to toggling a breaker switch in your home’s electrical panel when it’s been tripped after being overloaded. Follow up muscle testing after the reset demonstrates how the muscle has regained function. This enhances the effectiveness of exercise or other therapies, accelerating your clients’ journey to improved well-being.

What I’m discussing here are not commonly-known neurological reflexes. Physical therapists are mystified when I demonstrate these reflexes because these aren’t the kind that are taught at university.

Beyond Strength Building — You Need a Holistic Approach

Have you ever amped up your workouts but felt frustrated by slow progress? Perhaps you have recommended exercises for your clients to build muscle strength, only to be let down with their outcomes? The culprit might be a glitch in how the brain and muscles communicate. Recognizing that the body has energy circuits as revealed by five decades of Applied Kinesiology research, opens the door to uncovering hidden issues. Knowing how to reset muscles can significantly enhance rehabilitation outcomes.

Key Takeway

The bioenergetic style of muscle-testing gives real time, instantly observable biofeedback about what is stressed and the best solution.
